Worker's Compensation

Howard Krebaum, PT, former Chairman of the Council, has been the Council's representative to the Worker's Compensation Board for over 20 years. He was the Council's representative to the Recodification project, and sits as an arbiter for disputed bills.

The purpose and goals of his position are as follows:

  1. Obtain and disseminate pertinent information to the members regarding Workers' Compensation;
  2. Represent the profession before the Workers' Compensation Board;
  3. Monitor legislative activity regarding Workers' Compensation;
  4. Initiate changes to the Workers' Compensation system as conditions warrant.

Howard's presence on behalf of the Council enables us input to the Worker's Compensation Board as well as to various Compensation Carriers.

Medicare

The Medicare Chairman for the Council is Alan Leventhal. He is a successful private practitioner of many years experience. Prior to assuming the duties of Medicare Chairman, he served, among many other positions, as Chairman of the Council and National Director of the United Societies of Physiotherapists. He has testified before Congress four times on Medicare issues and traveled extensively to Baltimore to meet with CMS officials. In addition, he is a regular contributor to Impact, the newsletter of the APTA Private practice Section. He reports on issues related to Medicare and is available to members to discuss Medicare problems.

Commercial Insurance

We have a multi-member committee dealing with current issues in the commercial insurance arena.  Information is compiled from the field and from our members, and from other health care fields.  In addition, we have communication lines established with key decision makers in several insurance companies, as well as governing bodies with respect to insurance.

We meet with representatives from utilization management companies as well as carriers, and represent the needs of our members and privately practicing physical therapists.  This topic is one of our areas of primary focus and our board has the ability to communicate easily and readily to formulate an effective approach.
